(co)create x GLaWAC

We created this live research unit to support our continued partnership with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC), the Registered Aboriginal Party caring for a significant area of East Gippsland. Together with GLaWAC and Master of Architecture students, we co-created a ‘masterplan’ to help facilitate place-based growth of the organization, at their adaptively reused home at Forestec TAFE in Kalimna.

Our assistance of GLaWAC through this design research was supported by fieldwork in East Gippsland. It included student-led facilitation of co-creation workshops informed by cultural and environmental knowledge sharing by our local partners. Collaborating students transitioned acutely from theory to practice of participatory approaches in order to support the creation of a self-determined strategy for growing GLaWAC’s cultural expression, across their campus.

The final masterplan document is currently being leveraged to seek sources of funding to catalyse diverse initiatives housed within an overall Country-centred vision for GLaWAC HQ.
